Situated directly opposite the railway station Downtown Backpackers is ideally located, being the closest hostel to trains, buses and the inter-island ferry, and the new stadium, the city area and Te Papa, Wellington's fabulous Museum of New Zealand.
Downtown Backpackers is located in Wellington's historic Art Deco Waterloo Hotel, a former high class hotel which was chosen for the Queens 1953 Coronation Tour.
This hotel was one of the top hotels in the
Southern Hemisphere in its day. It is a classic example of the podium design of Art Deco architecture and is listed as historically significant by both the Historic Places Trust and the Wellington City Council.

Details for Wellington Downtown Backpackers:
Child Policy: Will need to be 18 years and over to check in without a Caregiver/Guardian.
Max Child Age: 5 (Baby cot is not available)
Car Parking: Unfortunately we don't have car parking, however there are car parking options available. On street parking is free from 6pm-8am weekdays and free all day weekends and public holidays. Alternatively there is an all day/night car park located across the street, the fee is approximately $10 for all day parking or $4 over night.
Checkin Time: 2:00 PM Checkout Time: 10:00 AM
Checkin Procedure: To check in you will need photo ID- passport, drivers liscence, ISIC or 18+ card. There is also a $20 key deposit per key. When you returnt he key on check out you will receive your key deposit back.
Tax: The rates are inclusive of all taxes.
