Local Activities:
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a 7-8 hour hike traversing two active volcanoes within the Tongariro National Park and is often considered to be the best one day hike in New Zealand and in the top 10 one day hikes in the world. Packed into this 19.4km hike is an array of diverse landscapes and vegetations. From tussock like alpine meadows, to rugged lava flows you will pass desert like craters, emerald lakes and waterfalls.
Whakapapa Ski Area is the largest and most advanced in New Zealand and is just 25mins drive from Plateau Lodge.
Whanganui River trips and the 42 Traverse mountain biking trips can also be arranged at Plateau Lodge.
There is a huge range of other activities and walks/hikes to keep you active here in the Tongariro National Park.
