Oamaru is an historic town and contains the largest collection of Victorian commercial buildings in New Zealand. It is also well-known for eco-tourism, the little blue and yellow penguin colonies very close at hand. The horticultural display in the local Public Gardens equals the best in New Zealand. Fine sporting facilities and tramping opportunities abound. Whisky, wine and water (for fishing) are all nearby.
