Our home was built in the latter part of the reign of Queen Victoria. Then, it stood on the shore of Nelson's Haven, with Weka running up and down the strand alongside our Rose Garden and now the vibrant and exciting city of Nelson has grown up and outwards around Amber House.
However, our home remains a peaceful and helpful haven for travellers with all of our city's attractions just a short stroll away.
Although crystal chandeliers hang from ceilings more than eleven feet high downstairs, we have a brand new hot water system, en-suite showers, double glazed windows and the Gold, Blue and Rose Rooms even have air-conditioning.
Upstairs, the en-suite Blue Room has its own verandahs with a view over Tasman Bay to the Arthur Range on one side and the Sugar Loaf and Botanical Hill (geographical Centre of New Zealand) from the other verandah.
All our rooms are BIG - large enough for two Queen Beds and our Green Room is very good value for families and those willing to forgo air conditioning in Nelson's sunny climate.
Guests compliment us on our "Ulster Fry" cooked breakfasts or you can help yourself from a buffet any time if you`re watching your weight.
All long distance coaches stop right outside Amber House so you can lie in a bit longer. We have a Garage for Bikes and we grow many of our own vegetables organically in the sunniest place in New Zealand.
Because we have children at primary school we do not allow smoking anywhere on our land.
Both Anne and Adam are born and raised in Nelson and would enjoy giving you tips on how to get the best out of your stay in the Top of the South... Welcome home!

Local Activities:
Our guests can amble to the nearby Miyazu Japanese Jardin or the Queens Gardens or simply sit on our verandah and enjoy the fragrance of our Irish roses in the front garden. On Friday afternoons, the Farmers Market is just opposite us in Founders Park. On Saturday mornings many of our guests love to visit the `world-famous-in-New-Zealand' Saturday morning craft and vegetable market in nearby Montgomery Square.
Our Guests help themselves freely from our fruit bowl (depending on season we may have spray-free apples, oranges, pears, plums, cherries, apricots, grapes, strawberries, mangoes, kiwi fruit and bananas) and walnuts (we've the oldest English Walnut tree in the South Island)
