Chapelwick is a fine stately home, tucked away in the Central Hawke’s Bay countryside, with expansive coastal views along beautiful Porangahau beach.
Originally the homestead of the Porangahau Station established in 1854, the original home was rebuilt in 1926 and has recently been renovated and modernised to provide fine bed & breakfast accommodation. Hosts, Rod and Raewyn Sykes, provide a warm welcome and thoughtful hospitality.
Set in 18 acres, the estate includes sweeping lawns and gardens, a fruit grove, swimming pool, tennis court, stables and its own historic chapel.
The house features several impressive public rooms, such as a wood-panelled library with large brick fireplace and a huge drawing room with a large fireplace with rimu surround, comfy couches, and window seat with sea views. The wood-panelled billiard room has a full size table and the conservatory has two sets of French doors opening onto a terrace overlooking croquet lawn. The grand entry hall is complete with chandeliers and staircase.
With five suites Chapelwick is able to accommodate up to 12 guests. It is perfect for a relaxing escape or makes the ideal getaway for a gathering of friends or family.
Chapelwick is the perfect wedding venue and will ensure an occasion to remember. The historic chapel is idyllically located for an intimate ceremony or renewal of vows. For larger groups additional accommodation can be arranged locally.
Chapelwick also welcomes groups for lunch, morning or afternoon tea, and a tour of the chapel and grounds. The house is also open for Devonshire morning and afternoon teas, lunch and private dinner parties by appointment. The Chapelwick Art Gallery exhibits work and crafts by local Porangahau artists.
